What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation that requires immediate attention to relieve severe pain, address a potential infection, or save a tooth. Some common dental emergencies include:
- Severe toothache: A persistent or throbbing pain in your tooth, especially when accompanied by swelling or fever, requires immediate attention and might be an indication of a more severe underlying issue.
- Knocked-out tooth: If your tooth has been completely knocked out of its socket, it’s crucial to protect your natural tooth till you see Dr. Cho and get the care you need. Submerging your tooth in a small container filled with milk or saliva will act as a makeshift seal to keep your tooth healthy long enough for you to bring it with you.
- Broken or fractured tooth: A chipped, cracked, or broken tooth can be painful due to exposed nerves and oxygen finding its way in. Saving your natural tooth is our highest priority!
- Loose or dislodged tooth: If a tooth feels loose or has shifted out of place, we can help restore it back to normal and provide a solution that protects your natural tooth going forward.
- Lost filling or crown: A filling or crown that has fallen out or become damaged can expose your tooth to further damage or infection and requires urgent attention. Your filling/crown acts as a seal against outside stimuli and harmful bacteria, and replacing it as soon as possible is essential in saving your tooth.
- Abscess or infection: A painful swelling or infection in the mouth can be a sign of a more serious issue hiding beneath the surface. We can help relieve the immediate pain and walk with you step by step to resolve the problem at its core.

We’re ready to meet your dental emergency with a calming and reassuring environment where you can feel confident in your care.
